The Chapel of the Vera Cruz is attached to the Church of San Francisco and serves as the headquarters of the
Real Cofradía de la Santa Vera Cruz y Confalón de Astorga. The current building dates back to 1816 and was rebuilt after the sieges suffered by the city during the Peninsular War.
The Camino de Santiago enters the historic center of Astorga through the gate known as Puerta Sol, as it faces east. This is one of the gates of the walls that still surround the historic center of the city of Astorga.
